Issues and CUTA’s role

Research projects — From the very first meeting of the newly formed EC with the authority [communiqué april 13], we have consistently raised the problems that the PIs are facing in conducting the different research, including those in UPE-II projects. We have had several discussions with the authority and some of the problems are resolved. CUTA’s proposal of a workshop [communiqué 22nd March, communiqué 22nd May, 7th June communiqué, 7th June letter to Pro-VC (BA& F), communiqué 4th July] to have clear discussion on difficulties faced by project investigators in handling funds is accepted and to be held soon.

Guest teachers over 62 years of age—a number of departments are facing tremendous difficulties with the sudden directive of non-continuation of guest teachers over 62 years of age.  CUTA consistently protested against this move [communiqué 13th april, communiqué 22nd May, deputation 22nd May, communiqué 30th may ] and submitted a petition signed by 250 faculty members to the Syndicate [petition June 5, communiqué June 7]. There is no development on the issue yet.

CAS due and Vacant posts – this has unfortunately been a consistent problem with our University. CUTA representatives met colleagues in different campus in different campuses to create a comprehensive list of vacancies as well as CAS due cases. We have had several meetings with the authorities and respective deans [communiqué april 13, communiqué 22nd May, deputation 27th May, communiqué 30th May,] and we are optimistic about progress in this front. We are keeping a keen eye out on the issue.

Faculty Council and Teachers representative – we believe this is the root of many problems that our university (as well as other state universities) is facing at the moment. CUTA’s demand in this respect seems to have fallen in deaf ears. We may have to adopt a more forceful position on the issue, if this demand continues to be ignored

Cap on expenses by Ph D committee – apropos a notice on a cap on Rs 5000/=, CUTA representative met the Pro VC Finance and we are assured that it was a misstatement in the circular and shall be corrected soon.

Harassment of question moderators – the newly imposed system of moderation included extremely humiliating security screening of teacher. CUTA took strong exception to this and took immediate steps to protest this. We expect a change in this system soon.

Online tracking system: The faculty members of various campuses have to come to the college street only to know the status of their bills. This has been a long standing problem which can be solved with an online tracking system. CUTA’s proposal in this respect is accepted by the authority. Hopefully this system will be in place soon.
